The 16”–17” Tricone Drill Bit is a versatile rotary tool engineered for demanding drilling operations in oil & gas exploration, water wells, geothermal wells, mining, and foundation piling. It features a proven three-cone (tricone) configuration with a rugged steel body and precision-engineered cutters to deliver effective performance in a wide range of geological formations.

Available in two cutting structure options — Milled Steel Teeth (MT) for soft to medium formations and Tungsten Carbide Inserts (TCI) for medium to extremely hard formations — this bit adapts to varying subsurface conditions. The cones are supported by open roller bearings, sealed roller bearings, or sealed journal bearings, tailored to operating depth, load, and pressure demands.

With an API Regular Thread connection, commonly in 6 5/8” Reg, this drill bit integrates easily with most standard drilling rigs. It incorporates three replaceable jet nozzles, which can be configured based on mud flow and pressure specifications, ensuring optimal debris evacuation and bit cooling.

Gauge protection is achieved through strategically placed tungsten carbide inserts and hardfacing, enhancing bit durability and lifespan. The bit body is constructed from heat-treated alloy steel, and critical surfaces are treated for corrosion resistance and wear protection. Seal types include metal face seals for sealed journal bearings and elastomeric seals for sealed roller bearings.

Operational performance is optimized by adjusting rotary speed and weight on bit according to the bit type. MT bits typically operate at 90–160 RPM and 10,000–60,000 lbs WOB, while TCI bits are best suited for 70–130 RPM and 20,000–100,000 lbs WOB.
